As many of you may have seen, Riley has been selected to represent Australia in the IIHF Men’s World Division 2A Championships being held in Belgrade, Serbia from 27 Apr-5 May.Australian “ice hockey”, unlike hockey in most hockey playing nations, is a niche sport down under. As such, players get no funding from the government or the Member National Organization – Ice Hockey Australia (referred to as “Ice Hockey” because in Auz…field hockey is much bigger for both men and women and is referred to as just “hockey”).
The players pay their own way to Worlds…this year amounting up to $3000 (possibly) per player. The linked fundraising post is for Riley and 3 of his Perth Thunder teammates and is split evenly between them.
